The housing crisis in Hounslow
Apr 27, 2025
Hounslow Council is in the process of developing a new housing strategy for the borough for the next five years as reported on local news website ChiswickW4. It is asking for the views of local residents, businesses and other organisation on how it can deal with the housing crisis and meet the needs of people living in the area.
The shortage of housing in Hounslow and across London is worsening with data recently released by the governmentshowing 336,366 households on London local authority waiting lists for social housing in 2024 – a 32% increase since 2014.
This means there is a chronic shortage of affordable, high quality, and secure housing in the borough. The housing strategy aims to target the limited resources to where they will have the most effect.
The Council has identified five priorities and is seeking feedback on these areas:
• Tackle homelessness and rough sleeping
• Safe and decent council housing
• Raise standards in the private-rented sector
• Work with partners, so that residents live healthy and independent lives
• More genuinely affordable homes.
Give feedback and take part in the consultation.
