The ‘Bridgerton’ travel itinerary: Chiswick
Aug 9, 2025
Shondaland is the television production company that produced Bridgerton and contributor Valentina Valentini, transports residents and visitors back in time, to the locations and interiors where the series was filmed.
CHISWICK HOUSE & GARDENS
The itinerary starts at Chiswick House & Gardens, an 18th century villa built in the neo-Palladian style, surrounded by magnificent gardens.
Amid the grounds’ glorious modern revival, Shondaland and Netflix chose to film there. You might recall Tiffany Rae and Shanti Hinton’s Bridgerton Wedding, which took place inside the towering octagonal atrium. Designed by Lord Burlington and William Kent, the villa is a white stone masterpiece of classical architecture and was used as the exterior location for the church scene in season three when Penelope and Colin have their pre-wedding dance.
KEW PALACE
A short bus ride away is The Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew and Kew Palace. In the series, Queen Charlotte’s Kew Palace interior scenes were filmed at Belton Estate (three hours north of London) and exteriors at Waddesdon Manor (two hours northwest). This tour includes a visit to the actual place where Queen Charlotte and King George III resided.
It’s an authentic representation of their day-to-day life, with intimate moments depicted throughout the self-guided tour of the house. Secluded in a clearing through a dense wood known as 'The Wilderness' is Queen Charlotte’s Cottage, one of the king’s favourite places.
SYON HOUSE & PARK
Just across the River Thames from Queen Charlotte’s Cottage is Syon House. The 18th century estate is currently one of the homes IRL of the Duke of Northumberland but was used as the Duke of Hastings’ family home in Season One as well as in key scenes in Season Two.
Background: Bridgerton is an American alternative history, regency romance based on the books by Julia Quinn. It follows the close-knit siblings of the noble and influential Bridgerton family as they navigate the social season.
