Protect your Chiswick property from the Arctic weather

Feb 5, 2009
With more snow forecast, what should you do to safeguard your W4 property?

This week's serious snowfall has caused widespread disruption for homeowners and residents of Chiswick flats and houses. Heavy snow has the potential to damage property and the Association of British Insurers advices consumers to check their household insurance.

Snow damage may be covered under the ‘storm’ provision within buildings insurance policies and policyholders should contact their insurance company for information and advice.

Frozen and burst pipes may be affected by clauses in insurance policies to ensure you have taken reasonable care – this can include not leaving properties empty for more than 30 days. If you do plan to go away for longer than this, sending someone round to check up on the property or stay a night during the period should mean you are covered.

The extreme weather has seen Ealing and Hounslow Councils struggling to provide essential services to properties in Chiswick, W4. Gritters have been out since Sunday afternoon to minimise disruption on the roads, and street cleaners took up snow clearing duties.

Vulnerable residents were contacted to make sure they could get any help they needed, and meals on wheels were provided if necessary. Age Concern advises checking on elderly or vulnerable neighbours during the cold weather.

Most services are now running as usual again following though refuse collections are on a bank holiday schedule, that is, the day after the normal collection.
