Are you thinking of replacing a complete original floor or adding to an existing one? First you need to think about the age and style of your property. Have your neighbours got similar floors laid, can you go and have a look or take some pictures?
These gorgeous cement tiles are popular for their colourful patterns, durability and versatility. Often used in shower enclosures and wet-rooms, concrete tiles are larger than geometric tiles meaning a feature floor can be created at a relatively low cost.

They are handmade so every tile is different - complete with slight imperfections. The pigment used is a mixture of white Portland cement, marble powder, fine sand and natural mineral colour.
Encaustic and geometric
This mixture is placed into a hand made mould, featuring the desired tile design, and is then pressed by hand or by using a hydraulic press to create the tile.
No glaze or kiln is used; cement tiles are cured by air and water, just like ordinary cement. Encaustic tiles (with the pattern already inlaid into the tile) cost more than the geometric tiles, so you will want to think about how many of these you have in your bespoke pattern.
The art of encaustic cement tiles was born in Europe in the late 19th century where they were used to decorate the floor of the palaces in St. Petersburg, Gaudi's style houses in Barcelona and in building entrances in Paris and Saigon.
