Latest community artwork on Turnham Green Terrace
Jun 23, 2025
A new community artwork has been hung on the railway embankment (known as the W4th Plinth) at Turnham Green Terrace: Paris Study No 1 by Philip Michael Wolfson.
“I’m thrilled”, the artist told The Chiswick Calendar. His work has been exhibited in Paris, Vienna and New York, but this was the first time he had won a public commission in the UK. Organised by Abundance London, the community artworks are chosen by a panel of judges and a public vote. The artwork will stay up for around six months.
On his Instagram, the artist says: "I’m honoured to share my winning entry for the Abundance London public art competition. I’m incredibly proud to have this work showcased in my local community."
Part of Wolfson’s powerful abstract map series, the work explores movement, urban development, and the idea of control through his iconic ‘Red Squares’ — centres of power and influence. The piece replaces Sky, the previous winner by Sally Gatie.
The W4th Plinth Artwork is displayed on the railway embankment opposite the Turnham Green tube station on Turnham Green Terrace (Chiswick Back Common).
