Best value UK cities for an August Bank Holiday break

Aug 22, 2017
A new survey from TripAdvisor has unveiled the best staycation city breaks if you're on a budget. Its TripIndex report compared prices for a three-night stay across 20 of the UK's most popular cities, taking into account typical costs for two adults. These included prices for three-night stay in a four-star hotel, a visit to four of each city's biggest attractions, lunch each day, a taxi to and from dinner, and the cost of dinner itself. Nottingham is the UK city that offers the best value and Oxford holds the top spot for the worst - the first year the University town has knocked London off top slot. This is due to the price of Oxfordshire hotels, with an average cost of £222.50 per night. But don’t avoid the university town completely as it proved the cheapest city for things to do, as plenty of its biggest attractions are free, making it the perfect destination for a grand day out instead.
