King of spin Alastair Campbell tells property professionals to 'defend your record'.

Spin doctor Alastair Campbell, advised major players in the property industry on how to handle the media in a depressed market, at an address this week at the British Property Federation annual conference.

The right hand man to former Prime Minister Tony Blair dispensed the following advice to property executives:

‘Determine a strategy, stick to it, do not concede the strategy to rivals, and do not allow yourself to be driven off your agenda and strategy. At a time when the general economy is suffering and negative press coverage is increasing it is important to be able to defend your record and stick to a central message.’

Election advice
He also predicted that Gordon Brown and the Labour party could win the next general election but only if they ‘took the fight to the Tory party’ and defended Labour’s record.

Campbell also warned that Tory leader David Cameron ‘looked nice in pictures’ but had yet to outline any clear policies and it was important for the property industry to prepare for a possible Tory victory as it could have wide-reaching ramifications given the fact that ‘no one knows what Cameron would do’.

He also said Ken Livingstone could be back and only lost the London mayoral election as the Boris campaign team had managed to turn the election ‘into a referendum on Ken which is very difficult to counteract’.
